Shop Talk-Holiday Soaps

Hi everyone we’re back!

We’re gearing up and getting ready for the holidays with your gift giving in mind. Annabelle and Rosebud (those cute white goats) and your enthusiasm for the Goat’s Milk Soap have inspired in us a Chocolate Goat’s Milk soap for the holiday season. This yummy soap has the same great ingredients as the regular Goat’s Milk with olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil and fresh goat’s milk but with the added joy of dark or milk chocolate. Why would we bother to make two kinds of chocolate soap? Because we know chocolate lovers have their preferences and we hope to satisfy them with these fun options.

Also, we bring back Peppermint Swirl. It is very pepperminty and so pretty with the red swirl throughout. Such a great soap for the holidays.

We have a new and improved Treasure Bar. For those of you not familiar with it each bar has a small treasure buried deep inside. You must do much washing to unearth your treasure. Kids love these!

All of these bars will be available around the 3rd week of October.

Spotlight-La Boutique

Last month we told you about the great reuse shop, Goodbyes, in San Francisco. Along the line of reuse and recycle we thought you might like to know of another gem, this one is in the quaint coastal town of Moss Landing. It is called La Boutique. It is a cute consignment shop that sells clothes, shoes, purses and imports. They also have cool jewelry, belts, scarves and items for the home. They are open from 11:00-5:00 every day. Make it an outing and enjoy lunch, galleries and other fun shops while you are there.

Where We’ll Be

On November 3rd we will be back to Native Revival Nursery for the very fun Poppy Farm Fair. Not only will there be tons of native plants to buy but also local arts and crafts as well as good food. One of the fun features of Poppy Farm Fair is the animal petting area where kids of all ages can visit the sheep and goats. They have a very cute garden shop as well. Come on by and have some fun. Saturday, November 3rd from 10-4. Native Revival is a 3 acre native plant nursery located at 2600 Mar Vista Dr., Aptos. It’s right off Soquel near Cabrillo College.

Garden Lane Soaps September News

Soap Talk-Goat’s Milk Soap

Probably the most asked question we get is “What is the best soap for my face?”
That is not an easy answer as all our soaps contain great ingredients but this month we tell you all about Goat Milk Soap.
Using goat milk in soap has the following benefits:
Goat milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids such as lactic acid which help remove dead skin cells from your skin’s surface. Goat milk contains many vitamins, but is particularly high in Vitamin A, which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue, and maintain healthy skin.

Fat molecules are an important part of making good soap. The cream that is present in goat milk helps boost the moisturizing quality of the soap. Goat milk contains important minerals for the skin such as selenium. Selenium is believed by scientists to have an important role in preventing skin cancer. Selenium can also help prevent damage to the skin from excessive time in the sun. So there you have it.

Annabelle and Rosebud

We have a new source of fresh goat milk and here they are. These gals have a great life in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We think happy goats probably make for good goat milk soap.

Our Goat’s Milk Soap is 20% off retail for the month of September.

Shop Talk-Oatmeal and Mint Refresher

While you’re thinking about what is good for your skin care regime you might consider adding this Oatmeal Mint Refresher to your routine on occasion. This refreshing fragrant face mask contains peppermint to pep up the skin and oatmeal to gently soothe minor irritations.

Oatmeal Mint Refresher

4 Tb. finely ground oatmeal

2 fl. oz. hot water

1 Tb. fresh mint leaves

Mix the oatmeal with the hot water until it forms a rich, thick paste. Wash and chop the mint and add to oatmeal. Let sit a few minutes so the oatmeal can absorb the water. Apply to clean face, relax for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. This should make enough for two applications. Enjoy!

Spotlight-Goodbyes in San Francisco

For those of you that know us well we are truly the reuse, repurpose, and reinvent types. In so many cases we stop and ask ourselves why buy new when you can get great satisfaction out of reusing an existing item? Well, that is why we love Goodbyes so much. These fully packed adjacent stores carry fine-designer fashions, shoes, and accessories on consignment in Presidio Heights. The shops are just minutes from downtown. The adjacent locations – one for men and another for women – ensure that there are plenty of designs to choose from. The constantly updated inventory includes a full range of styles and prices but they also carry names like Dior, Gucci, Prada and Garden Lane Soaps. If you are in The City why not think about paying a visit?
Check out their website to learn more. goodbyessf.com
They are open every day and parking is easy. And that counts for a lot!

Garden News

We are blessed this year to have a fairly nice tomato crop, unlike last year when we had to rip out all our plants due to tomato blight. If you have bumper crops of garden goods you are probably like us right now trying to put up, dry, freeze, can and eat as fast as you can. It is a lot of work during the season but such comfort and satisfaction in the off months to pull from the bounty and create great meals with homegrown crops.

We have some amazing sunflowers this year as well. Here are just a few of our happy plants.
